A WYLD EXPEDITION demands a lot from its participants. It asks you to lead your group and to follow, to be resourceful and creative and to explore and discover. It requires you to learn and master new skills, to build your level of fitness and confidence, and to work together with your team. In return, it will give you the opportunity to see and do things that you once could have only dreamt of. It will offer you the chance to push yourself to the limit, and bring home more skills than you left with.

CANOEING, ALPINE HIKING AND MORE!
This expedition takes place in the spectacular region of Strathcona Provincial Park, the oldest provincial park in British Columbia. From Alpine peaks to remote ocean inlets, there are infinite possibilities in this 250,445-hectare wilderness park. It is truly an adventurer’s paradise.

HIking in alpine meadowsThe 12-day Backcountry Classic course takes you through this awesome landscape and teaches you to enjoy and appreciate the wilderness. Like every WYLD EXPEDITION, you fully participate in all aspects of traveling and surviving this wilderness experience including setting up and breaking down camp, planning and cooking meals, navigating and route finding over land and water, and learning about your natural surroundings.

Expert instruction and guidance help you and your group to achieve your goals. All of our instructors are highly qualified guides and outdoor educators, who endeavour to share with you their knowledge and experience as they teach you to live and travel in the wild.

You begin your course at our headquarters, Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre where you’ll meet your group members and begin preparation for your expedition. Your first night is spent outdoors at our base camp shelter.

The adventure begins the next day as you embark on the first phase of your expedition, a two-day canoe trip on Upper Campbell and Buttle Lakes where you are introduced to the Backcountry Basics. You explore lakes and shoreline as you make your way toward your destination of Phillips Creek, the trail head to Marble Meadows. Being in the wilderness means attending to the essentials; you’ll need to find a location to camp and prepare for your evening. A campsite must be selected and shelters set up, dinner must be organized and prepared and a fire lit for warmth. Tomorrow is another day, with more adventure just around the corner.

The next phase of your expedition takes you into the mountains for six days as you hike up to Marble Meadows and beyond. This journey travels up through some incredible old growth forest and brings you to the alpine meadows and mountain peaks that await you. You and your team-mates learn many technical skills to help you to traverse the mountain ridges. As you progress, you will hone many of your camping skills, allowing you and your group to take over more of the responsibility from your instructors. You have become a self-sufficient expedition group and this final leg is your chance to fully manage the navigation, campsite selection and set-up, meal planning and preparation. It is your opportunity to use all that you have learned to succeed as a team.

After leaving the mountains and as you canoe back to base, you stop and realize that you have shared countless experiences with your fellow participants, learned many things about yourself and the people around you and have accomplished things you could have never done alone. The trust and teamwork that has grown between you and your group is an important key to the success of your expedition and ultimately, your experience. Enjoy a celebratory feast on your final evening together as a group before heading home the following morning; reflect on all you've learned and achieved on your journey home. We thank you for choosing WYLD!
