A WYLD EXPEDITION demands a lot from its participants. It asks you to lead your group and to follow, to be resourceful and creative and to explore and discover. It requires you to learn and master new skills, to build your level of fitness and confidence, and to work together with your team. In return, it gives you the opportunity to see and do things that you once could only dream of. It offers you the chance to push your self to the limit, and bring home more than you left with.

CANOE UPPER CAMPBELL LAKE & HIKE MARBLE MEADOWS TO MT. MCBRIDE
The 14-day Backcountry Classic takes you through the awesome alpine landscape of Marble Meadows. Students on this course experience the freedom of being completely self-sufficient. No schedule to keep, just you and the mountains. The course begins and ends with a canoe trip and is filled with endless opportunities in the mountains. You will spend most of your trip exploring the spectacular high alpine and learning the skills you will need to make and attempt on Mt McBride, the 7th highest peak on the Island. Like every WYLD EXPEDITION, the team fully participates in all aspects of traveling and surviving this wilderness experience including setting up and breaking down camp, planning and cooking meals, navigating and route finding through the lakes and trails, and learning about our natural surroundings.

ITINERARY

HIking in alpine meadowsDAY 1
On your arrival, your instructors and fellow teammates meet you in Campbell River. From here, you drive to your first campsite on Upper Campbell Lake, where you get to know the rest of the group and the equipment that you will use over the next two weeks. Time is also spent going over the trip logistics and setting personal and group goals for the expedition.

DAY 2-3
The first adventure is a two-day canoe trip on Upper Campbell Lake where you are introduced to the Backcountry Basics. These include outdoor cooking, campsite selection, shelter building, paddle techniques, and minimum impact camping. Your comfort and confidence build as you and your team tackle these daily challenges with increasing ease. This canoe trip brings your group to the base of Marble Meadows, and the start of your ascent into the mountains.

DAY 4-12
Now it's time to trade paddles for packs as you begin your trek into the mountains. This journey travels up through some incredible old growth forest and brings you to the alpine meadows and mountain peaks that await. From the meadows you base camp and plan different trips. You and your teammates learn many technical skills to help you to traverse the mountain ridges. As you progress, you hone many of your camping skills, allowing you and your group to take over more of the responsibility from your instructors. The summit of Mt. McBride is a highlight of this trip and one that is well worth the effort. You and your team hopefully have become a self-sufficient expedition group now, and this summit attempt is your opportunity to use all that you have learned to succeed as a team.

DAY 12-14
As you return to Upper Campbell Lake, you prepare for the two-day paddle back to base Camp, stopping to realize that you have shared untold experiences with your fellow participants, learned many things about yourself and the people around you and have accomplished things you could have never done alone. The trust and teamwork that has grown between you and your group is an important key to the success of your expedition and, ultimately, your experience.
