KAYAKING, HIKING & MORE! Expert instruction and guidance help you and your group to achieve your goals. All of our instructors are highly qualified guides and outdoor educators, who endeavour to share with you their knowledge and experience as they teach you to live and travel in the wild. You begin your course at our headquarters, Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre where you’ll meet your group members and begin preparation for your expedition. Your first night is spent outdoors at our base camp shelter. The adventure beings the next morning on our High Ropes Challenge Course, suspended forty feet off the forest floor. You’ll have the opportunity to face the challenge course obstacles, and with encouragement from your newfound friends, build confidence in yourself and trust in your team-mates. In the afternoon you head down to water and become familiar with sea kayaking skills, strokes and rescues in preparation for your kayaking journey. On your second morning wake up and head to the bluffs for a session of rock climbing. Here, you learn the basics of climbing including knot tying, rope systems, belaying and rappelling. Most of all, you learn to trust yourself and your team mates as you help each other to succeed. Rock climbing is a unique experience that is intensely rewarding and absolutely unforgettable. After lunch pack your kayaks and begin your lake kayaking adventure. Over the next few days time is spent learning the Backcountry Basics as well as exploring the lake and shoreline. You might take side trips into the river mouths, or look for the perfect swimming spot, or you may just lay back and float, enjoying beautiful Upper Campbell and Buttle Lakes. Travelling in the wilderness means attending to the essentials; you’ll need to find a location to camp and prepare for the night. A campsite must be selected and tarps set up, dinner must be organized and prepared and a fire lit for warmth. Tomorrow is another day, with more adventures just around the corner. A highlight of this expedition is a day hike through the pristine Tlools Valley where you will attempt to reach spectacular Mia falls. Tlools is a wild and rugged old growth valley and home to abundant wildlife. Find adventure in the tall trees and steep streams. Nearing the end of your trip you have become a self-sufficient expedition group and this final leg is your chance to fully manage the navigation, campsite selection/set-up, and meal planning/preparation. It is your opportunity to use everything you have learned to finish your journey, as a team. On your last day head back to base for a celebratory feast and your final night together as a group. On your journey home reflect on the shared experiences you’ve had, the things you’ve learned about yourself and the people around you, what you accomplished together that might not have been possible on your own and the shear beauty of the natural world. We thank you for choosing WYLD! |
